Four Components for a Healthy Relationship

Everyone starts out with hopes of having a healthy, thriving relationship. However, time often reveal we don’t always know how. As a relationship coach, helping individuals build healthy, thriving relationships is what I do. There are a few essential components that every healthy relationship must have for it to flourish and bring fulfillment. Let’s examine some of those:
Know Yourself
It's crucial to have a solid understanding of your values, beliefs, interests, and personal boundaries before committing too deeply. Therefore, you and I must first connect with ourselves, before trying to connect with others. Knowing yourself will help you communicate your needs effectively and ensure you are not compromising yourself while building connections.
Set Boundaries
Your boundaries are your guide. They will alert you to red flags and behaviors that make you uncomfortable. Boundaries are essential to maintaining a healthy sense of self; and it communicates to others how you want to be treated.
Maintain Your Interests and Independence
Continue pursuing your interests, hobbies, and passions – those are the things that bring you joy and personal fulfillment. In doing so, you maintain a sense of individuality making your relationship more interdependent than dependent.
Open and Effective Communication
Effective communication is the lifeblood of every healthy relationship. Be open about your needs, concerns, and feelings. And encourage your partner to do the same. Honest communication with your partner leads to deeper understanding and a stronger connection.
Finally, it’s important to note that specific dynamics, priorities, and characteristics of relationships depends on the individuals involved and the type of relationship they share. You decide on the type of relationship you want, then settle for nothing less.
